When I firsr bought this book I thought it was a story, but I found out that the author is criticizing what women do in their lives. It's pretty funny though. Nice to read on the beach.

What a relief to see in print the truths that many women experience daily but are sometimes too emotional to express. The little "life lessons" that women can and should share to help each other out are invaluable. Jan King's style is easy to read and time just flies by while your laughing your head off. It is obvious that Ms. King has numerous friends with whom she shares special moments with on an ongoing basis. We all need friends.

Very funny in the biginning, wears off toward the end

I read the book in one evening, it was very funny in the beginning, so I kept reading and reading, but the last few chapters are "over kill", a joke here and there is ok, but not in every sentence. I would recommend the book definitely, maybe don't read it all in one night.

I was actually disappointed by the book. I just didn't find the humor all that funny. It is made painfully obvious that the author doesn't care for Gabrielle all that much. I am a huge Xena fan, but this book just didn't do much for me.

If you have a sense of humor, you will enjoy this book. If you don't you will hate it. It is totally tounge in cheek and meant to be that way. Don't take it seriously, you're not supposed to. Personally I found the book hilarious, course I am naturally crazy. To judge whether or not you will like it; if you like the humorous episodes of Xena, then you will enjoy it. It has the same humor and one liners as they use on the show. Thanks for listening and Battle On my friends!

Nancy LeVine is an award-winning photographer who travels worldwide on a variety of assignments. Her clients include Microsoft, Starbucks, Puget Energy, and the Alliance for Education. She has worked for L'Officiel de la Couture magazine in Paris, and her images have appeared in American Photo and the Photo Review. With a master's degree from New York University/International Center of Photography, Nancy lives in Seattle, Wash. Joseph Duemer is the coeditor of Dog Music and a Fulbright scholar. He has authored three poetry books, Customs, Static, and Magical Thinking, and his poems have appeared in American Poetry Review, Antioch Review, and Georgia Review. This tiny gem of a book is priced to give out like candy canes over the holidays! The profound images of photographer LeVine's miniature Australian shepherds serve to reflect places in the human heart that you may not even have been aware of. Poet Joseph Duermer's aphorisms - often amusing, always wonderful - spill through the pages. This is a stunningly crafted little book as well. Every detail - the use of duotone, the rich paper and binding, the beautiful choice of inks, the competent layout, the striking dust jacket--is perfect. Even the author's statement of purpose is beautifully expressed and sheds light on the fact that this book is about so much more than dogs or photography. This book is a masterpiece of elegance and wise grace.

Gets Close to the Viewpoint of a Dog

Photographer Nancy LeVine spent the better part of a decade capturing images depicting her pair of Australian Shepherd sisters, LuLu and Maxie, in all kinds of settings, from romping on the seashore to riding in a car, and all kinds of moods, from frenzied activity to measured serenity. Her crisp duotone images are honest, natural, real moments, unlike the contrived artifices other animal photographers such as William Wegman employ.
Hence, Ms. LeVine presents a deep yet subtle vision of how these dogs experience the world and interact with other dogs and with their humans. (If you have never owned an Aussie, it's possible you may not fully appreciate the genius of her photographs and her subjects.) Sometimes the "truth" shines in the dog's eyes or reveals itself in an image of a dog unabashedly having fun. I'm not sure if there are any high-minded lessons here, but something of the exuberance and intensity these dogs experience transcends the pages.
Poet Joseph Duemer contributes extraordinary, insightful phrasing that melds seamlessly with the mood of each photograph and the combination celebrates fully the Zen of dogs. He offers just enough detail and form without trying to manipulate or dictate emotions and perceptions.
Folks who do not share their lives with canines will find this book entertaining. Those who do will find it magical, and, among this group, those who have Aussies of their own will keep this well-crafted and well-designed book within easy reach.

The authors commendably avoid selecting a best model in favor of emphasizing that the concept’s underlying principles and guidelines permit great flexibility when applied to different disciplines, course structures, and types of participants. The authors also deal effectively with the proliferation of definitions, labels, and education jargon that can confuse and intimidate an outsider looking just for a few good ideas to get started with peer mentoring. In particular, their decision to intersperse descriptions of specific programs with succinct summaries of education research is a nice touch. About the Author
Tania Smith is assistant professor of communications studies in the Department of Communication and Culture and has been involved in developing peer mentoring programs, hosting peer mentors, and teaching peer mentors across the University of Calgary since 2005. With a background in English literature, rhetoric and writing studies, she has studied innovative program and course development involving service-learning, mentoring and other forms of collaborative learning. She has co-authored with two senior peer mentors a textbook titled Curricular Peer Mentoring: A Handbook for Undergraduate Peer Mentors Serving and Learning in Courses (Trafford, 2009) and is author of a 2008 Innovative Higher Education article on the pilot year of the arts peer mentoring program.

In addition to the battles, skirmishes and raids expected in a book on this subject, Butler takes the reader further into the politics of the war, and the difficulty of adequately supplying the militia and funding it. His experience as a former employee of the National Archives and Records Administration results in a work that is well researched, citied and indexed. Because the national army was so small and ill-prepared, national defense fell onto the shoulders of the state governments. State governors and militiamen carried much of the burden, with serious consequences for the state budget and the people of Virginia. About the Author
Stuart L. Butler is the former assistant branch chief of the Military Archives Division, National Archives and Records Administration. He retired in 1999 and currently serves on the Citizens Advisory Council for the Virginia Bicentennial of the American War of 1812 Commission. He attended Florida State University and Florida Atlantic University where he received his B.A. and M.A. in American history. He is the author of the Guide to Virginia Militia Units in the War of 1812 (revised 2011), Real Patriots and Heroic Soldiers: General Joel Leftwich, and The Virginia Brigade in the War of 1812 (2008).
