Su astuta selección y manipulación de modelos culturales masculinos (Realismo, no Romanticismo; prosa, no poesía; castellano, no gallego) le garantizó la inclusión en el canon nacional español. El estudio de sus espinosas relaciones con el emergente nacionalismo gallego muestra que su exclusión de la “literatura gallega” se debió en gran medida a su transgresión de normas de género comunes a ambas formaciones nacionales (España y Galicia). En conclusión, este libro cuestiona la naturalización de los cánones nacionales al explorar la política de género detrás de construcciones culturales que se pretenden determinadas naturalmente por la lengua y la geografía. Mediante este análisis la autora expone como paralelas las estructuras de género detrás de dos proyectos nacionales aparentemente opuestos, el proyecto centralista español y el periférico gallego.
