Prayers For a Woman's Soul by Julie K Gililes is a very beautiful devotional book for women. The book consists of 52 devotionals, one for each week of the year. Since it's not arranged by month and day, I was able to start my reading with "week one" instead of "July 1" and did not feel like I'd missed most of the devotionals before I even started. Great format... because this devotional allows me to begin and end on my own reading schedule and not a calendar schedule.
I had to laugh when the introduction started with "I settled into seat 10-A, flipped open a magazine, and unwrapped a piece of chocolate." This author knows how to get my attention...I was instantly bonded with her unwrapped chocolates. In our mutual comfort zone, she then writes "God spoke. You need to begin to pray for yourself. Regularly." Now Julie Giles had my full attention, since the Holy Spirit said very similar words to me last year. Are you listening? Is the Lord telling you to pray for yourself?
As I was reading Prayers For a Woman's Soul by Julie K Gillies I was captivated by the beauty of the author's prayers. She personalizes these prayers for her reader and there is a sense of deep intimacy with the Lord. For example, on week 18 she prays "Oh God, I desire to walk in peace in every situation. I don't want to be moved by my circumstances, shaken and upset by the things that go on around me. Help me not to be agitated and disturbed, but to choose Your presence and the precious peace Jesus bequeathed to me in the middle of every circumstance."
This is one of those devotional books you'd want to keep beside your morning routine. You can read it with a cup of coffee or tea beside you, reading the weekly devotional each day until the new week begins. Meditate on God's word, the scriptures are included with each devotion. Read the prayers aloud or record them into your cell phone and listen all week long. If you enjoy the book as much as I do then you'll want extra copies to give friends. This would be a perfect gift for your Bible study friends, your sister, mother or grandmother. Most of all, this will be the perfect gift for you.

Prayers for a Woman's Soul - IT'S REAL. IT'S RELEVANT.

I wasn't exactly prepared for this book. I wanted it to be deep, meaningful, personal, and encouraging. It is. But it is so much more.
Julie K. Gillies writes from the heart. She shares personal experiences from her own life that nearly all women can relate to as well as sharing how the Lord patiently taught her and carried her through each situation she faced. As I read this wonderful little book I discovered areas in my life that I had long neglected, parts of my soul that needed refreshing, healing, and prayer. That is exactly what this book is about.
The short stories that open each chapter are relatable and interesting, coming straight from the author's own life. Her words are fresh, laced with light-hearted humor and are written in a way that made me feel as though she was talking to me face to face and pouring into me the truths God has imparted to her over the years. The end of each chapter provides the reader with points to reflect on, a prayer and powerful scripture verses to strengthen the spirit.
I would love to give a copy to all the dear women in my life, I know they'd be as delighted with it as I am.
