Surprisingly new and refreshing! Dr.J is poignant, personal and just nails it!

I am almost finished with your book and I must say I am pleasantly surprised. I read a lot of books and usually just end up skimming them because there is little useful or new. The Sacred Path has proven to be different. Perhaps because I have always seen myself the Spiritual Warrior, I can completely relate to all that you put forth. The father gap and its impact on both me as a son and me to my children seems to ring very true. The nature of men learning from and communicating with men has never interested me and now I see its appeal and power. The Return to Chivalry and the six challenges all seem to describe my experiences and my journey in ways I have never heard or seen expressed. Granted I have not finished and you almost lost me with the pieces on service to God but I must say I am enjoying the book greatly and I appreciate you sharing your personal insights and history with the world.
I think this book is a must read for the emerging mindful man.

Insightful, moving, thought provoking and much needed nowadays

The Sacred Path is tremendous. It covers a wide variety of important issues to men and how to go about dealing with them. It's actually quite an easy read for such heady material and will be easily understood by those who don't have a psychology background. I think any man (or the woman that loves them) will "get" it. I've found in my experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist that Mr. Fix-it men want concrete advice and instruction. To that end I was pleased that the book contains practical exercises and to-do's in the appendix section.
The chapter on mentors was compelling and thought provoking. Especially the clarification and distinction between fathers and mentors. Another strength of the book is the use of personal anecdotes. Stephen Johnson's recollections from his own life and those of his clients really bring it to life. I found myself laughing and moved at the same time by the story of Conrad, his son and a new friend named Michael. And the personal details of Dr. Johnson, his father and their "completion" (including the way his own son was woven into it) brought me to tears. That section in general really gave me a lot to think about regarding my own father.
I also truly identified with the sections on the feeling of "not good enough" and "Male Provider Syndrome". I suspect in these tough economic times many other men will as well.

DON'T READ THIS BOOK ........

...unless you're ready to become the man you always want to be.
Dr. Johnson has a gentle way of keeping your feet to the fire. If you know (and we all do) what the right thing is to do, reading this book will help you remember and set you back on the course of a mindful journey to doing the right thing.
The way of the Spiritual Warrior on the Sacred Path is the journey of turning the golden rule into my own life reality. Having a book like this helps me -- like a resource or a reference -- find the strength I need to stay the course.
I've read so many self help books they have all come to sound the same until now. This book touched me because it is about me. Dr. Johnson's sharing his own story could be any of our's. He doesn't write down to us because he believes he is the same as us. His story telling is a beautiful teaching method that has helped me better understand myself and those that I love. It has even helped me to realize the energy I burn on those I've hated ends up hurting me and sucks away the power I have to use for being a better husband, father, grandfather and man-friend.
If you care about being a mindful human, this is a must read. Thank you Dr. Johnson for crossing all the publishing hurdles and writing blocks to get this important manuscript into circulation.
