Smallwood and Co. do it again!

Over the last several years, Carol Smallwood has provided an invaluable service to librarians, organizing the most practical books in the field of librarianship. She does it again with Continuing Education for Librarians: Essays on Career Improvement Through Classes, Workshops, Conferences and More, co-edited by Vera Gubnitskaia and Kerol Harrod. Two tenets of effective librarians include an insatiable curiosity and a desire for perpetual learning. Continuing Education for Librarians: Essays on Career Improvement Through Classes, Workshops, Conferences and More is a wonderfully assembled guide for librarians by librarians who desire to develop practical skills and expand their knowledge base for personal and professional fulfillment, but ultimately, for the sake of serving library patrons. For librarians who have the seeds of ideas about how to improve their professional skills set and improve their minds, but need help on where to begin, then Continuing Education for Librarians is a helpful resource for any library practitioner's bookshelf. Ms. Smallwood's editorial team has proved to be exceptional support on the last two works, which includes last year's Marketing Your Library: Tips and Tools That Work. Practical advice by librarians for librarians

Carol Smallwood has once again come to the aid of librarians with an incredibly readable and practical guide to career advancement for librarians. The 27 essays by librarians for librarians cover the nuts and bolts of updating old skills and learning new ones. Addressed are online workshops, conferences, networking, mentoring and teaching, among others. And money—or lack of money due to shrinking budgets—is taken into consideration. This book is for librarians at all career stages and the advice is sincere, forthright, and, most important, it is proven because it is based on personal experience.
