Gr 8 Up-In this sequel to Ruined (Scholastic, 2009), Rebecca is back in New York maintaining a long-distance relationship with Anton; hanging out with her best friend, Ling; and trying to put last year's horrors in New Orleans behind her. But the ghosts can't seem to leave her alone. She soon learns that she is the only one who can see Frank, and he begs Rebecca to help him find a lost locket that he hid in the final moments before he was brutally murdered centuries ago. The locket, Frank affirms, is under the floorboards of a house in New Orleans that is scheduled to be demolished. If he cannot recover it and return it to its rightful owners, he will be stuck haunting the city forever. Rebecca is not in a hurry to start helping another ghost, but then her father surprises her with a trip to New Orleans for spring break. Once she returns to the magically haunted city of her past, Rebecca can't resist helping Frank. Love-interest Anton is more concerned about the resurfacing of Toby Sutton, Rebecca's nemesis from last year who is now obsessed with revenge. Morris's tale culminates in a just and satisfying ending, but all in all, there are too many plotlines, too many characters, and too much action. Loved it!

Absolutely loved this sequel with Rebecca! This sequel is worth the read.... a wonderful written story about Rebecca's return to New Orleans and the adventure and mystery that is waiting for her once she arrives.... Absolutely loved it!

Unputdownable! (yes, that's a word ;))

Gosh, this book...it was awesome! I literally finished reading it in ONE sitting. Now, this doesn't happen too often, but when it does it means that the book was just too good to put down!
Another ghost mystery...I loved it! This world the author created really makes me want to visit New Orleans. More so after I read Ruined and Unbroken back to back! The imagery was just SO vivid, and I could see it clearly in my mind! It was just a fantastic!
First of all, the beginning started off really interesting and quite action-y, unlike the last book. It was fast paced and we see the mysterious ghost boy almost right off the bat! Loved it!
The characters were awesome! Rebecca was very determined to help this ghost, with or without the help of her friends. I really like her determination, and she's really a very brave character!
Her "cousin" Aurelia is a great supporting character! She is supper bubbly, a little bit nosy, but that's only because she want to help, and just overall likable! She is like the little sister I've always wanted!
Oh my gods! I was SO happy to learn more about Rebecca's friends from NY...Ling, specifically! And the addition of the new character Phil? Loved him! He and Ling were just super cute together! And Phil was just too funny! I literally LOLed every time he was around!
The book had another great ghost mystery for us to solve, and I can happily say that this one wasn't as predictable as the one from Ruined. First of all, I kept wondering why Rebecca of all people could see this ghost boy. I was freaking out a little thinking it was another curse or something.
Overall, it was a great read! An awesome ghost story with a splash of mystery and a little pinch of romance. Also, it's made me want to visit New Orleans! *Adds New Orleans to "Places to visit before I die" list*

Ok I have to say that while I liked this book it wasn't as great as the first one was to me. I guess I went into this expecting more than what I got out of it. I expected there to be more a connected mystery to solve this time around than there was. I don't want you to get me wrong through because I still enjoyed it just not as much. I have to say I started out reading this one and it picking up with how things ended in the last one. I expected there to be more of a connection between Rebecca and Anton with all that they had been through in the first book. They seemed more like friends than an actual couple like I would have thought they would be. I did like that Rebecca was resolving to move on with her life after everything she had been through and was not going to let anything hold her back.
Oh the beauty of New Orleans was oh so amazing. The author creates such a vivid picture and you really got to know how true natives lived there. There was so much history thrown in that kept me hooked and I wished that I was there getting involved in one of the parades or eating some of the wonderful food. The author really knows how to create some world building and it shows throughout this story. I hate to dwell on what I didn't like but another thing was that Anton was really kinda a jerk this time around. He just didn't seem has concerned about certain things as Rebecca was and didn't really seem that invested in her and a relationship with it. I wanted my nice sweet Anton that I loved from the first book back. This book had another cool mystery for Rebecca to solve this time and we once again got to see the magical ghost world that was about of this story. I loved the new ghost in this book and loved how well the author developed his back story and made him a character that I cared about.
Overall while I didn't like certain points of the book it was still a good read for me. I loved the world building and the way the author laid it all out there. I loved seeing Rebecca again and her solving another mystery. I loved seeing her stand up for herself and her cool best friend Ling. The book was pretty fast paced and kept me entertained throughout and engaged enough that I wanted to finish the story. With the way things ended I am hoping there will be a third book as I would love to see this world again. I would recommend this one to readers that love a good mystery and want to read a book with a cool New Orleans vibe.
