Andy Penver currently lives and works in the U.K. as a solution architect for a large public sector client. He studied at Christ Church (University of Kent). He has over 18 years of experience in working with Oracle E-Business Suite. He has worked in both the private and public sectors, and has a strong technical background. He has led and managed teams of consultants through the full project lifecycles on some very large programs throughout the U.K. and Europe. Andy has been heavily involved in two large-scale, award-winning implementations of a shared service centre.
Andy is currently the Managing Director of his own consultancy, NU-TEKK Limited.
Andy has previously authored and published a book called Oracle E-Business Suite R12 Core Development and Extension Cookbook.

what is OA Framework ?

What exactly is OA Framework? The title has this phrase and so does the back cover. But suppose you are unfamiliar with it. Going into the text, we start at the Preface, which also uses the phrase. Again with no explanation. Then there is chapter 1, with the heartening title "Personalizing OA Framework Pages". This is like pulling teeth.
Ah, perhaps it stands for Oracle Application[s] Framework? If so, or especially if not so, why can't the author bring himself to explain this. Is this too basic? Or it is just a blind spot in his gestalt? Maybe the text does indeed explain it later. But that is also my point. Why should the reader have to wait in puzzlement till deep inside the book?
The screen captures are at least well done. Care has been paid here to touching up the images so that we can appreciate salient features. And you should glance at the image on page 28. It depicts what is called a view object and the full SQL query that it expands into. Take a gander at the awesome verbosity of the latter. Most impressive. Not something to type. Extremely error prone to do so. It is autogenerated. But you might wonder about how long something like that would take to execute. Even given that it might run on a Sparc chip, so that Oracle has optimised everything from the silicon up to the 11g database.
The rest of the book goes into intricate details about how to use the GUI that Oracle has built up around OA Framework [whatever that is]. Methodical and presumably comprehensive.
What also can get interesting is what Oracle now calls Oracle BI. Which at least the book deigns to tell us stands for Business Intelligence. It previously had the nondescript moniker XML Publisher, which sounds totally generic. No surprise that Oracle saw the chance for some corporate branding.

This book provides a good insight into the complex topic of OAF Development. The book covers the topic in quite detail. I will be able to use some of the information from this book for several of our customizations in our Oracle EBS environment.

As name suggest Oracle E-Business Suite R12 Integration and OA Framework Development and Extension Cookbook by Andy Penver covers few of the recipes (though interesting and practical in nature) focusing Oracle E Business Site R12 and Oracle Application (OA) Framework.
Book covers OA framework, BI and desktop integration. In less than 350 pages. But as any other cook book, this book also does not focus on why but on how, which is fine.
Book is divided into eight chapters. First five focuses on OA framework. Chapter sixth and seventh focuses on BI publisher and Desktop integration. Last chapter talks about utilities offered by Oracle E-Business Suite R12.
In holistic perspective book delivers its value and will be helpful to its readers.
