Excellent view of American diversity

Lalo Alcaraz's La Cucaracha is an excellent view of American diversity. With humor and irony, Alcaraz exposes issues relevant to Mexican-Americans, a group that is as AMERICAN as anybody else, since they were on American soil since even before the United States existed as such, but have been discriminated for a long time. At times, the reader can feel the anger of Alcaraz (who is of Mexican descent himself), and that seems to upset some of his readers. I recommend this work to anyone interested in American issues, especially Chicano, diversity or multicultural studies.

Well Come to Califas!

Charming and hilarious.
great stuff from a talented fellow who has been around California and knows what it's about. To appreciate this book it helps if you've met the man. He attended UC San Diego and gives you an earful about their mascot the Aztecs.
It's more than a little ironic that conservative San Diego touts a Mexica as their main boy at the university.
I'd like to see a lot more of his work. Especially since I see Chicanos evolving into a "California Latino". You know the type the taco eating, soul music listening, kung fu movie watching, channel surfer who can barely speak Spanish. That description pretty much describes the California youth of today.
I think this book appeals to non-Latinos who have lived in Calif.
It comes down to the old, "We are them and they are us" idea!
