About the Author
Lynn Johnston was born in Collingwood, Ontario, and grew up in British Columbia. Today, she lives in Corbeil, Ontario. Johnston is the first woman to receive a Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year from the National Cartoonists Society in 1986. She has also received the Order of Canada and claims a star on Canada's Walk of Fame.

But Loses One Star Because....

As always, Lynn has delivered a delightful mixture of family and continuing stories that is her trademark. FOR BETTER OR FOR WORSE has always been one of the best comic strips and coupling the old with some new and with explanatory notes and glosses and articles works just as well in this third treasury as in the proceeding two. That said: This treasury was a bit of a disappointment in that it does not physically fit well on a shelf with the first two books in what I hope will be a continuing series. First, the thinness. Then there is the main color of the cover. This thin, brown-covered volume fitting up against the first two much thicker and sky-blue-colored covers just looks out of place, a mismatch. Even the little picture at the top of the spine does not match -- this being a character study on a white background instead of a closeup of a character full-bled into the background color of the cover. OK, yes, this is minor. But I think it needs to be mentioned because many people such as myself who look forward to a collection like this want to see excellent production values carried throughout the collection. By itself the book is OK in design. But as the third book in a followup to two previous volumes the production values on this one were poorly developed and make it stand-out on a shelf instead of making of the collection a cohesive and visually appealing whole. Anyway, this probably is just a very personal observation and if all you care about are the actual comics and story you may consider this a five-star review. Even if you agree with me, well, four-stars is pretty good and you should buy it!

Never Disappoints!

Lynn Johnston has been entertaining me since I was a child with her For Better or For Worse strip in the paper. And now she entertains me as an adult with her books! I own every single book, and they all are wonderful collections on life at its best... and its worst. Making Ends Meet made me smile all the way through!!! I can't wait for the 4th Treasury.... and maybe a new book in the collection series!
